Privacy policy
Metis is built to need as little personal information as possible. This page says exactly what is collected, where it goes, and how long it lasts.

1. What Metis collects
Metis collects three things:
- The words you type into the Metis conversation. This is the only content Metis processes.
- What you put in the contact form: your name, email address, optional role or organization, and message.
- Anonymous usage signals. Through PostHog, Metis records event names such as pages viewed and steps reached. It does not record what you type.
2. What happens to what you type in the conversation
Your messages are sent to Anthropic's API, the service that runs the Claude model. A serverless proxy forwards the conversation so Anthropic can generate the plan. The proxy only formats the request. It does not read, change, or keep your messages.
3. Whether conversations are stored
Metis does not store your conversation. Metis has no database, no accounts, and no sign-in. It also does not use localStorage, sessionStorage, or IndexedDB. Your conversation exists only in your browser tab while it is open and is gone when you close or reload the tab.
The one place your words go is Anthropic. Anthropic stores them under its own terms and retention rules, described below. Metis not storing your conversation is not the same as no one storing it, and that distinction matters.
4. Retention
Metis keeps nothing. There is no server-side storage of your conversation or any profile.
Anthropic's standard retention is automatic deletion of API inputs and outputs within 30 days.
Exception: if Anthropic's automated trust-and-safety systems flag content as violating its Usage Policy, Anthropic may retain those inputs and outputs for up to 2 years. Classification scores may be kept for up to 7 years. Anthropic may also retain data where required by law.
Anthropic offers a zero-data-retention arrangement, but it is not enabled for Metis and must be requested separately.
5. Whether submitted content trains AI models
Not by default. Anthropic's Commercial Terms state: "Anthropic may not train models on Customer Content from Services." Inputs are the messages submitted to the API, and outputs are the responses the API returns. Those together are "Customer Content."
That means Anthropic does not use your conversation to train its models simply because you use Metis.
6. Analytics
Metis uses PostHog to understand how the site is used. Autocapture is turned off and session replay is turned off in the code, not just in PostHog's dashboard. Metis also does not call PostHog's identify() method.
What is recorded: event names, counts, and labels Metis assigns, such as which page was viewed or which button was clicked. What is never recorded: the text you type, the content of your conversation, or anything that could reconstruct your plan.
8. Error logging
If something goes wrong, the serverless proxy logs the error message only. It never logs the contents of your conversation. The same is true for the contact-form handler: it logs error messages only, never the message body or your contact details.
9. Contact form data
The contact form at /contact asks for your name, email address, optional role or organization, and message. Those details are emailed to the site owner through Resend.
They are not stored in a database. They do arrive as email and persist in the owner's mailbox, the same as any other email.
10. Deletion requests
Because Metis has no accounts and no database, there is no account to delete and no stored conversation to remove. If you have submitted the contact form and want the email thread deleted, you can ask the site owner to delete it. See /contact.
Metis cannot delete data that has already been processed by Anthropic. Anthropic's retention is governed by its own terms.
11. Student information
Do not enter real student names, education records, or any other identifying student information into Metis. Use initials or general descriptions instead. Once information is sent to Anthropic, Metis cannot retrieve or remove it.
12. Intended users
Metis is for educators and other adults. It is not meant for direct use by children under 18.
